Discover Donostia's hidden photo gems, perfect timing, and how to capture authentic memories on your first visit
If it’s your first time in San Sebastián, let me tell you something—this city may be small, but it has so much to offer. As a local photographer who’s spent years exploring every corner, I want to help you experience it in a way that feels real, relaxed, and unforgettable (not rushed or overwhelming).
Here are my top 10 recommendations so you can enjoy San Sebastián like a local—and capture it beautifully too.
1. Don’t try to do everything in one day
I know… it’s tempting. But San Sebastián is not a “checklist” kind of city. Slow down, take your time, and actually feel the place. Trust me, that’s where the magic is.

2. Always be ready for unpredictable weather
The Basque weather? She’s moody 😅It can go from sunshine to rain in a few hours. Bring layers, maybe a small umbrella, and don’t stress—the changing light actually makes everything more photogenic.

3. It’s not just beaches—there are mountains too
Yes, La Concha is stunning, but don’t stop there. You’ve got Monte Igueldo and Monte Urgull with insane views. Beach + mountains in one place? That’s the vibe.

4. Sunset from Urgul Montain is a must
Golden hour from up there? Unreal. You get the full view of the bay, the city, the coastline… honestly, one of the best spots in San Sebastián.

6. Get lost in the Old Town (Parte Vieja)
Don’t overplan this. Just walk. Wander. Turn corners without Google Maps. This is where you’ll find the real essence of the city.

7. Do a proper pintxos crawl
Please don’t sit in just one bar. The experience is going from place to place, trying different pintxos or "tapas", different vibes. It’s social, it’s fun, and it’s very local.

8. Walk along Zurriola Beach
This one feels different—more local, more relaxed, a little surfer energy. Perfect for a chill walk, especially in the afternoon.

9. See the city at different times of day
Morning, golden hour, night… San Sebastián completely changes depending on the light. If you love photos, this is key.

10. Slow down and enjoy the lifestyle
More than anything, San Sebastián is about how you experience it. Sit at a terrace, have a coffee or a glass of wine, and just be present. No rush.
